TMC Says:

"Those in the know rate the Isuzu D-Max very highly, as do we at TMC. And as you’ll hear, for very good reason."

Isuzu’s strong, dependable and rightly popular D-Max knows exactly what it wants to do, and does it really well.

There’s much use of the word ‘lifestyle’ with today’s pick-ups. But when it comes to the Isuzu, it’s as a working machine that the pick-up’s qualities particularly shine through.

When it comes to all things work, it’s up there amongst the top of its class. Payload is an impressive 1,116kg for double-cab variants, rising to a thoroughly practical 1,282kg for a more basic single-cab. Towing capacity matches the best at 3,500kg, but is enhanced further with a particularly large amount of torque from low in the range – making the D-Max a useful companion when it comes to towing heavier loads.

That said, as a lifestyle vehicle the D-Max more than pulls its weight. The interior may be the sturdiest in its class – designed to withstand a tough working life – but it does so whilst still remaining a comfortable, and pleasingly stylish environment to travel in. The range-topping Blade model, in particular, is an impressive-looking truck with its leather interior, exterior styling additions and colourful touch-screen technology making it a very tempting package.

Up until 2019, the D-Max is powered by a twin-turbo 2.5 diesel, offering up 163bhp combined with 400Nm of torque from just 1,400rpm – and impressively, this is combined with respectable fuel economy figures of more than 38mpg on the combined cycle. You can get a 2WD D-Max, but most come with selectable 4WD and are a capable off-roading machine, with sturdy underpinnings that cope admirably with the tougher terrains faced by most business pick-ups.

If you’re after a working vehicle, the D-Max is your friend - and should be high on your list. They’re capable, willing and always handy to have around. With a particularly high towing capacity and a particularly large amount of torque from low in the range, the D-Max is a superb choice if you’re going to need a towing workhorse. This is a truck that stays focussed on getting the job done - but it’s certainly not all work and no play. It’s also one of the most striking looking trucks out there. The D-Max is a popular choice as a sturdy, reliable companion. It’s already enjoying a hard-working life all across the UK, and for good reason.
